I will be showing how to use Astrum Installer for the enclosed pictures and will place each in a seperate thread. If you use a different installer, the same/similar steps should apply. This is the most simple first page of astrum where you name the files to become an exe later. Alpha included a rudimentary installer in a few versions of alpha. I believe it was version 8-11, but did not include it with v12. I have never used it but messed with it just a little.

Very nice Dave. I know the lack of an installer in the v12 and a very limited installer in earlier versions is a real problem. I used Bytessence, also free, and found it very usable. The install packages I made with it received some positive feedback. It looks similar to Astrum as you have it in your post. I will post a link to your post in the A5 message board so it help others.
*** I posted the link, it might help others find this forum as well....

A little note: creating a .exe for your application is outlined here. It has never changed from windows 95 - win8 and aphav1-v12.

Thanks Dave. John sent one built with Byteessence. Very neat indeed.

Hi, probably not the best place to ask this but the product is fairly obscure. It looks like Thraex has discontinued the software, causing lookups to www.thraexsoftware.com/au/update-info.xml to fail. This seems to be causing silent auto updates to fail. I can redirect the lookup to go to another site but need to know the contents of the update-info.xml (program name) for the Auto Updater. Can anyone help?

Neiln, You may want to post this question on the new forum as this one is pretty dead(membership is free). forum.applicationallstars.comThraex has decided to go by the wayside. It is now free as you supposed. There seems to be no support anywhere now and I am looking for another installer like many others. I have installs running on win8 with absolutely ZERO problems. It even shows up on the starting windows panel. So they can start win8 and get right to work. I will soon test win8.1 and expect no problems. I do updates to my desktop apps with astrum and alphan in 3 ways. 1 a full update with no datafiles(dbf & fpt) files changes, I simply do not include those files and send everything else needed including the newer runtimes as needed. 2 When significant changes are needed to data files, I have astrum copy the whole application to a seprate place like \save old app\. I then have a bootstrap in alpha that appends(or whatever needed) the data on first start. 3 With minor data files changes, I just make the changes programatically from alpha on first start after the new update. I will eventually move this to the new forum completely and add to it. There is much more to this that can be done. We would also appreciate anyone else posting a similar/different way to accomplish an install. I also intend to put up a similar tutorial for creating a shadow from scratch and a bootstrap method that works with a drive letter and with a server computer name which is different.
